TKN Scholarship Winners
The Knowledge Network of Greater Omaha Announces Scholarship Winners for 2011
2011 TKN Scholarships have been awarded to:
Peter Freeze, Creighton University
Risa Barrett, Metropolitan Community College
Brandon Bartling, University of Nebraska at Omaha
The Knowledge Network of Greater Omaha congratulates our 2011 TKN Scholarship winners. They were chosen based on these criteria: Current and Fall 2011 students who will attend Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha or Metropolitan Community College. Applicants must plan to major in media production/broadcasting (TV/Radio/Film/Video Journalism) and be a student who has consistently maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Each will receive $600 to continue pursuing their degrees.
"A major component of the work we do at TKN is to mentor and encourage the next generation of broadcast journalists," said Joyce Bunger, TKN Board Chair. "Providing them with a venue to showcase their work is very important."
Regarding Brandon Bartlingís scholarship at UNO, Dr. Robert Franklin, TKN President states, “Brandon was one of my students, did a very good job in my Radio Production I class and is a worthy recipient of this scholarship from TKN”. Dr. Franklin is also director of Media Operations for UNO Television and Classical 90.7 KVNO Radio and an assistant professor in the UNO School of Communication.
Bob Maass, Metropolitan Community College Video/Audio Production Faculty comments on his student, Risa Barrett, “Risa is an exceptional student here at Metro and she will be graduating from the Video/Audio Communication Arts Department in May. She always has a smile on her face and is always ready to work within a team to accomplish projects. She won first place in the Art/Experimental category in the 2010 Elkhorn Valley Film Conference. Risa will be using her scholarship award while continuing her education taking classes in the Electronic Imaging and Graphics department here at Metro.”
In commenting on Peter Freeze, Dr. Eileen Wirth, Professor and Chair of the Journalism Department at Creighton University says, “Peter is a talented video photographer and a fine, well-rounded student who has participated in such things as our Backpack Journalism program. He's especially valuable for the work he does promoting Creighton Admissions. We are very proud of him.”
